Eva Steinaa
oboe
Eva stands as one of Denmark’s foremost oboists, and since 2014 she has been the principal oboist in the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. Beyond her orchestral duties, Eva maintains a vibrant presence as a soloist and chamber musician across Europe.
In the capacity of guest principal, Eva has played with orchestras such as the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in Germany, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in England, the Oslo Philharmonic in Norway, and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, among numerous others. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with a roster of distinguished conductors, including Gustavo Dudamel, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Fabio Luisi, Herbert Blomstedt, and Jukka-Pekka Saraste, among others.
Her soloist engagements have taken her to prestigious platforms, including performances with the Copenhagen Philharmonic in Denmark, the Jönköping Sinfonietta in Sweden, and the Pärnu City Orchestra in Estonia. Noteworthy among her accomplishments is her debut as a soloist within her own orchestra, where she played the Strauss oboe concerto alongside director Fabio Luisi in 2018. The acclaim from this performance led to an invitation from Luisi to reprise the Strauss concerto with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo, Japan, in 2022.
Eva’s musical journey commenced at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in 2012. Just two years later, she won the audition as the principal oboe in the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. Eva continued her further studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and was accepted into the soloist class in 2015. That same year, she won “The Norwegian Soloist Prize” (NO), the “Gladsaxe Music Prize” (DK), and was awarded the esteemed “Leonie Sonnings Talent Prize”.
